Accelerated and optimised engineering

Introduction to AutoENGINEER

Since its inception in 2019, the capabilites of AutoENGINEER have continually evolved and now encompass the design of EV charging infrastructure; plastic recycling modules and solar farms. During 2023 the solution's functionality expanded into the energy transition landscape and delivers modular designs for hydrogen electrolysis facilities, powering H2Evolution.

Reduce project schedules with AutoENGINEERSM

Combining classic engineering with our bespoke 3D modelling design system, we compress month long processes to less than a day. This de-risks engineering, allows for optimisation as well as rapid screening of project portfolios.

AutoENGINEER for Hydrogen

Executing multiple design projects following a traditional design method is a laborious and costly undertaking which significantly reduces the return on investment. This is especially notable when justifying the cost of developing nascent designs such as development of hydrogen into a scalable and mass market energy solution.

KBR’s approach to design overcomes these issues by redefining how we deliver. Our approach is centred around developing and managing engineering technologies to accelerate design activities, saving cost and time. Engineering design effort is shifted from focusing on the design of individual site details to the management of overarching design rules enhanced through specific parameters for individual sites.

Clients benefit also from the ability to leverage economies of scale. The rapid application of engineering rules, accompanied by the ability to customise attributes, brings added benefits of design optimisation. This allows for the ability to rapidly review multiple sites and select the optimal solution, including provision of supporting cost estimates and layout configuration. Continuous improvement is achieved through intelligent feedback from completed designs which ensure that each design learns from the previous iteration, lessons learned are no longer archived without incorporation.

AutoENGINEER for Plastic Recycling

A key differentiator in the production of the cost estimates is the ability to provide a higher accuracy cost estimate than can be delivered via the tradition engineering design process. The accuracy of the cost estimate is increased because manual intervention, estimation and approximation of material take off lengths and quantities are removed. These measurements are derived from calculations set out in the design rules. An accurate engineering definition delivers more accurate cost estimates which may determine whether, or not, a design is economically feasible.

KBR’s Automated Engineering Solution is a proven solution for rapid engineering design and definition which has been applied to the design of other energy transition solutions including the design of the process modules required for the recycling of plastics and the design of infrastructure for electric vehicle charging facilities.

EV AutoENGINEER Solution

In the next ten years, thousands more electric vehicle charging sites will be required across the world to meet keep pace with the record sales and the estimated 700 million electric vehicles set to be on the road by 2050 (Wood Mackenzie Energy Report, 2021). To deliver this level and speed of demand, engineering designs we will need to be rapidly developed.

KBR can deliver this level of speed and accuracy through the use of our AutoENGINEER Solution. With a user-friendly website interface, clients can quickly enter EV charging requirements to receive a design.

The proposed site location and site boundary is entered into the website and within 48 hours the client will receive an initial layout drawing, via the same website. This is then followed by the list of materials (MTO) and Navisworks 3D model within 72 hours of the confirmed initial layout.

Furthermore, whilst removing emissions via switching to an EV is half the battle, we take our design the step further and analyse the embodied carbon emissions of each design using our CleanSPEND solution.

CleanSPEND calculates the embodied emissions included the materials, equipment, transport, and construction related emissions. Via the website the client can change features of the design such as the location of material supply or the type of canopy etc. and receive a revised carbon footprint calculation. This ensures that all designs have the capacity to deliver the best technical, financial, and carbon solution in high quality, rapid, and automated solution.
